Rich, heavy desserts, such as tiramisu or cheesecake, are more likely to trigger heartburn. Other no-nos for heartburn sufferers include heavy tomato or cream sauces, double cheese on pizza, sausage and pepperoni, and oil-based salad dressings. Instead, choose dishes with little or no cheese, pasta “en brodo” (which is a light broth-type sauce), minestrone (vegetable) or pasta fagioli (macaroni and bean) soups, veal or chicken in a light mushroom sauce, vegetable side dishes without too much garlic or olive oil, and biscotti for dessert.
