![]() Healthy Meals in 10 Minutes or LessBy Susan Male Smith, R.D. Email this article to a friend
Who has time to cook anymore? Fortunately, with more and more supermarkets catering to harried, time-strapped shoppers, it’s easier than ever to find healthy, heartburn-friendly dinner fixings without resorting to overly processed convenience foods. Start by walking the perimeter of the store, advises Elizabeth M. Ward, registered dietitian and author of several nutrition books, including The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to the New Food Pyramids (Alpha 2006). Processed foods are generally located in the interior aisles. The perimeter is where you’ll find healthful whole foods, like produce, dairy, eggs, fish, meat and bread. Then follow these four steps to put together meals that are quick, easy and nutritious: 1. Pick Your Protein
2. Choose Your Whole Grain 3. Don’t Forget Your Veggies
4. Put it All Together Susan Male Smith, R.D. , is co-author of Foods for Better Health and has written for Redbook, American Health and Family Circle. In her previous life, Susan worked as a clinical nutritionist and an investigator of food and health claims. Article Rating

Please send me more infomation . Thanks Tina Tabares Posted by Tina Tabares on 5/27/08 at 12:30 PM Healthy eating Thank you so much for this info, tips on healthy eating in this busy life are great!! Posted by Pamela McEowen on 7/7/08 at 6:52 PM 10-minute to fix meals My husband and I have to watch sodium--it's mostly no sodium for us as I have hearing problems from anything but a little (some people over 50 have problems with sodium collecting in the cochlea of the ear so it's like you have hands over your ears with regard to hearing) and husband has high blood pressure. No way can you find no sodium food items at the grocery store deli--or maybe one, like rotisserie chicken (has sodium), then add plain veggies, a leafy salad, and jello. Otherwise, the processed meats are loaded with salt and fat. It would be nice if people could salt their food for themselves, but it's automatically added into everything. In order to hear, I need to eliminate salt--most veggies naturally have salt in them anyway. I play piano so it is very important to hear correctly. My ear doctor told me this when he could have charged me for all kinds of things not related to the salt issue. Posted by Judy Barrick on 6/28/10 at 12:56 PM Sodium and meal planning Rotisserie chicken has TONS of sodium in it when you purchase them st the grocery store. However, I have seen some stores that cook them without salt. i suggest you buy your own whole chicken, buy some "no salt seasoning", throw that chiken in the over, and let it cook. I think we all have time to eat healthy, but we need to plan our meals...if that means cooking one-pot meals like healthy soups and stews that you can put in a crock pot, then that's what we need to do to be healthy.
