When eating at an Italian restaurant, what should you avoid if you suffer from heartburn?

By Jane Shiyen Chou for Live Right Live Well

When eating at an Italian restaurant, what should you avoid if you suffer from heartburn? Rich, heavy desserts, such as tiramisu or cheesecake, are more likely to trigger heartburn. Other no-nos for heartburn sufferers include heavy tomato or cream sauces, double cheese on pizza, sausage and pepperoni, and oil-based salad dressings. Instead, choose dishes with little or no cheese, pasta “en brodo” (which is a light broth-type sauce), minestrone (vegetable) or pasta fagioli (macaroni and bean) soups, veal or chicken in a light mushroom sauce, vegetable side dishes without too much garlic or olive oil, and biscotti for dessert.
